What is a Hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a physician whose main professional focus is providing general medical care to patients who are admitted to a hospital. Many physicians at Halifax Regional work with our hospitalists to help provide care when their patients are admitted to the Medical Center.

Quick facts about hospitalists

  • Hospitalists are physicians who have completed medical school and a residency.
  • The majority of practicing hospitalists (85%) are trained in internal medicine, while some specialize in family practice or pediatrics.
  • The only time you would be seen by a hospitalist is when you are admitted to the Medical Center.

Teamwork improves patient care

Hospitalists at Halifax Regional meet each morning to discuss the progress of patients. “We have a high level of teamwork among our hospitalists,” says Tiffany Mose who manages the hospitalist program. Hospitalists communicate often with your primary physician and encourage patients to ask questions and express their concerns anytime during their stay.
