Nephrology

At Halifax Regional, board certified nephrologists treat patients with diseases affecting the kidneys.   Inpatients requiring dialysis as part of treatment for the disease will receive this service in the Medical Center’s Dialysis Unit.  Patients who are too sick or unstable to be transported to the Dialysis Unit can be treated in their rooms via portable dialysis machines.  Dialysis technicians work closely with the doctors to care for and monitor patients receiving dialysis.
