HRMC Adds Rooms for Outpatient Procedures
Halifax Regional Medical Center has added a new Medical Outpatient Unit to its ever-increasing list of healthcare services. The three-bed department, located on the Fifth Floor, will treat all medical outpatients, allowing the current Ambulatory Care Unit to continue to accommodate the growing needs of surgical services.
This new department will serve a diverse patient population requiring medical outpatient services such as blood transfusions, antibiotic infusions, chemotherapy/biotherapy, series vaccinations, and more. Initial operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The unit staffs a Registered Nurse with a background in adult and pediatric nursing and a unit clerk who provides support services. All staff members are certified in basic life support and cardiopulmonary, laboratory, and radiology services are available in-house at all times.
Fifth Floor Nurse Manager Sheree Jenkins said of the new addition, “The Medical Outpatient Unit was made possible through a collaborative effort by employees from multiple departments within the organization who recognized a need in this patient group and responded. By establishing this unit, we believe that we can improve the quality of care for our medical outpatient population, which will result in improved patient outcomes and increased patient satisfaction for those who utilize our services. We recognize our responsibility to promote and provide the highest quality care for individuals and families who are experiencing illnesses. Our staff is fully committed to the HRMC mission of existing to meet the needs of our customers and always placing the patient first. Our purpose is caring for the local residents and our vision is to create a stronger and healthier community.”
