March Is National Social Workers Month ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – (March 28, 2007) – Halifax Regional is observing National Social Workers month by recognizing the contributions of the Medical Center’s six professional social service workers. The theme for the March observance is "Hope and Health: Help Starts Here", and highlights the important role of health social workers in the wellbeing of patients. More than simply treating a patient, social workers take a holistic, psychosocial approach to working with a patient providing the best overall care. “Social workers play an integral part in the quality of care for patients,” says Lisa Gupton, Director of Case Management. “They work with physicians, nurses, case managers and other medical professionals to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.” More than 110,000 healthcare social workers across the country act as the advocate for a person’s needs and guide them in making decisions about their physical and emotional care.
