Medical Center Receives Education Grant
Employees Trained in Specialized Areas

ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – (February 15, 2007) – Halifax Regional has received a grant from the Turning Point Workforce Development Board to train 120 employees in specialized areas.

The grant for nearly $31,000 was used to provide four days of classes, including Healthcare Leadership, Legal Issues, Biochemical and Nuclear Terrorism, and Emergency/Critical Care Nursing.

“The Medical Center is grateful for the opportunity that the Turning Point Workforce Development Board has afforded us through this grant,” said Debbie Sanders, Education Coordinator at the Medical Center.  “This money has provided our staff with quality educational programs that we would not be able to offer otherwise.”  The Workforce Development Board is based in Rocky Mount. Its grant to Halifax Regional is one of its firsts in the healthcare field.

“The benefit to the community is a workforce better prepared to handle the various situations that arise in the daily operation of a hospital,” said Sanders. “Without the grant, the Medical Center would have been unable to provide the classes to so many employees,” she continued.
