For Immediate Release HALIFAX REGIONAL EXPANDS HEART SERVICES
ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – (October 16, 2007) – Halifax Regional is expanding its heart program with the addition of a cardiac catheterization lab this month. “Bringing a cath lab to this area is another example of how the Medical Center continues to invest in technology to enhance healthcare services,” said Will Mahone, president and CEO. “Heart disease is a major issue in our region, and we are committed to expanding our program to meet the needs of heart patients.” Having the procedure at Halifax Regional will save patients the time and expense of going out-of-town, Mahone noted. A cardiac catheterization involves a small flexible tube going to the heart and coronary arteries to determine the heart’s pumping capability and whether any arteries are blocked. The test takes about 30 minutes and will be conducted in a mobile lab brought to the Halifax Regional campus by Duke Medical Center. “Our nurses are well trained to provide treatment for cardiac patients,” said Mike Joyner, RN, manager of the cath lab. “We will go the extra mile to take care of these patients.” Dr. Geloo is the third board certified cardiologist on the medical staff of Halifax Regional. Somasekhara Balla, MD and Natarajan Manickam, MD see heart patients at Halifax Medical Specialists. |
