Halifax Regional Plans Memorial Service
Family and Friends Affected by Loss of a Pregnancy or Baby Are Invited

 
ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – (September 24, 2007) – The Birthing Center at Halifax Regional is holding a memorial service on October 12 to comfort those who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or infant..

During the service 300 purple, biodegradable balloons will be released to memorialize lost infants. “The service and balloon release is just a small way for the staff of Halifax Regional to help grieving parents and families cope with their loss,” said Amy Joseph, RN, Manager of the Birthing Center.

The Birthing Center at Halifax Regional has a Bereavement Program in which trained staff assist parents and families who have just lost a pregnancy. “The success of our Bereavement program comes from the dedication and compassion of the nurses, doctors, and volunteers that work with the grieving families,” Joseph said. “It is this compassion that compels our staff to hold this service.”

The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Healing Hearts Memorial Garden, located behind the main lobby of the Medical Center. For more information about the ceremony or the Halifax Regional Bereavement Program, please contact the Birthing Center at 252-535-8670.

The service is part of Halifax Regional’s observance of National Pregnancy and Fetal Loss Awareness month.
