HALIFAX REGIONAL PURCHASES IMAGING EQUIPMENT
New CT Provides Unsurpassed Images

ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – (May 5, 2008) – Halifax Regional is taking a leap forward in imaging technology with the purchase of the latest CT scanner.

The installation of the new Siemens Sensation 40 Slice CT scanner represents a $700,000 investment in cutting edge technology for patients at Halifax Regional. The Medical Center is replacing a nine-year old single slice CT. “The CT that we are currently using has served our patients well. It has provided countless images, helping physicians make life saving diagnoses,” said Bill Navarro, Manager of Diagnostic Imaging. “There have been many improvements in the last nine years, and we look forward to offering our patients the latest in advanced imaging technology.”

The new CT will provide several benefits to patients at Halifax Regional:

  • Patients will wait less time for appointments.

  • Procedure times will be significantly shorter, allowing physicians to review the images quicker.

  • Images will have unsurpassed detail and clarity to help physicians make accurate diagnoses.

  • Patients will be exposed to 66 percent less radiation than before, thanks to the new Care Dose software.

  • The advanced technology and software package that Halifax Regional is installing will eventually allow the Imaging Department to add additional types of tests.

Instillation will take about a week. “Barring any problems with the installation process, our CT technologist should be able to start training with the new machine and software by the end of the week,” said Navarro. “We will then be ready to scan the first patients using the new CT starting May 12.”

During installation, a mobile CT scanner located behind the Medical Center will be used.
